This policy explains what [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("MilanSetu", "we") collects through the MilanSetu app, why, who sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. A matrimonial profile is personal by its nature, so this is worth reading properly.
1. What we collect
| What | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account | Name, username, email address, phone number, password (stored only as a secure hash — we never see it). |
| Biodata | Date of birth, gender, height, marital status, education, occupation, income, religion, caste and sub-caste, gotra, mother tongue, complexion, body type, blood group, diet, and family details. |
| Photographs | The images you upload for your profile. |
| Partner preferences | What you are looking for in a match. |
| Payment | A payment reference and its status. Card, UPI and bank details go to Razorpay, not to us — we never receive them. |
| Bureau | Which marriage bureau you registered under, and notes our staff record about your registration. |
| Technical | App version, device type and server logs, used to keep the service working and secure. |
2. Sensitive information
Religion, caste and health-adjacent details such as blood group are sensitive. We collect them because matrimonial matching in India is built around them and members search on them — not because we need them for anything else. You provide them knowingly when you fill in your biodata, and you may leave optional fields blank. We do not use them for advertising, and we do not sell them.
3. Why we hold it
- To create your account and publish your biodata to the bureau network.
- To let your bureau review, verify and circulate your profile.
- To suggest matches against your stated preferences.
- To take and confirm your membership fee.
- To contact you about your registration, your membership and its renewal.
- To keep the service safe — investigating reports, false biodatas and misuse.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
4. Who sees it
- Your marriage bureau. They see your full biodata and contact details — they are the ones making introductions.
- Other members. They see your published biodata and photographs. They do not see your phone number, email address or home address. Contact runs through the bureau.
- Razorpay, our payment gateway, for the fee.
- Our service providers — hosting, file storage, and email/SMS delivery — who act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.
- Authorities, where the law requires it.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
5. Where it is stored
On servers and file storage located in [REGION — e.g. India]. Where any provider processes data outside India, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place.
6. How long we keep it
- While your profile is live, and for [RETENTION PERIOD — e.g. 12 months] after you close it or your membership lapses, in case you return.
- Payment and tax records for as long as the law requires — typically eight years in India.
- Records of blocked accounts for as long as needed to stop the account being re-opened.
After that we delete your data or anonymise it so it can no longer identify you.
7. Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal data of yours we hold and who we have shared it with;
- correct anything inaccurate or incomplete;
- erase your data where we no longer need it;
- withdraw a consent you gave us — though some things, such as publishing your biodata, cannot continue without it;
- nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become incapacitated.
Write to our Grievance Officer below. We will respond within [RESPONSE PERIOD — e.g. 30 days]. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
8. Security
Passwords are hashed, never stored in readable form. Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted. Access to member data is limited to bureau and office staff who need it, and staff actions on a registration are recorded. No system is perfect — if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the Board as the law requires.
9. Children
MilanSetu is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
10. Changes
We will update the date at the top when this policy changes, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
